Wender Plaza is a fully occupied, 55,226 square foot shopping center with five buildings anchored by Sprouts and a Dutch Bros pad site. It is strategically located along Highway 151 in San Antonio, Texas.
The architectural style embraces the rustic charm of the Hill Country, using earth-tone materials and minimalistic wall treatments. Natural elements like limestone and CMU are complemented by exposed wood and steel components. This design enhances the aesthetic appeal and aligns with the natural surroundings, creating a harmonious blend of modern retail spaces and traditional materials.
A key challenge was managing the significant grade differences on the site. The design uses a step-down approach along each building, aligning structures with the topography and ensuring seamless integration with the environment. Restaurants with drive-thru and pick-up services are placed close to the feeder road for easy access, while retail stores and sit-down restaurants are located inward, encouraging visitors to explore the center.
Wender Plaza is not just a shopping center; it's a community hub combining modern retail with natural, rustic design, perfectly positioned to serve a rapidly expanding trade area.
